Plan your tripTurkey issues an e-visa online to Indian passport holders who hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa, usually within 24 hours. Without one of those, a standard sticker visa is required in advance, which we process.
There are no direct flights from Bengaluru. Turkish Airlines, Emirates and Qatar connect through Istanbul, Dubai or Doha, with total travel time around eight to ten hours. Cappadocia is a short domestic flight from Istanbul.
April to June and September to November. Summer is hot and very crowded. Winter is cold and grounds a significant share of Cappadocia balloon flights, so build a spare day into the itinerary if you travel then.
Turkey is safe in the tourist regions. Take normal precautions against pickpocketing in the Grand Bazaar and on crowded trams. Tap water is not recommended for drinking; bottled water is cheap and everywhere.
The Turkish Lira has been volatile, so check the rate close to travel. Cards are widely accepted. Exchange in the city rather than at the airport, where rates are markedly worse.
Mosques require removed shoes, covered shoulders and knees, and a headscarf for women, usually lent at the door. Avoid visiting during Friday prayers. Haggling is expected in bazaars but not in shops.
